More than a quarter century ago, when ADOPEM was founded as a Non-Governmental Organization, the primary purpose of its founders professional women concerned about the deplorable conditions of poverty in which the least fortunate women lived in the Dominican Republic was to plant the seed of hope.
A lot of such planting has been done since 1982, and many thousands of lives have been improved. The extraordinary changes brought about by this institution have furthered production in families and communities, which are now more optimistic about their future.
The year 2005 was the first year that Adopem began operations as a savings and loan bank, complying in a disciplined and exemplary manner with the regulations that govern financial institutions. This first year of operations was like a test we passed with flying colors.
The year 2006, our second complete year of operations, established us firmly as a model financial institution, in tune with the dedication and exigency with which directors, officers, and employees perform their endless daily tasks, always adhering to our philosophy of service.
The year 2007 served to reaffirm our commitment to society, the impoverished classes, and small-scale businesses, taking upon ourselves a host of programs and projects with great socio-economic impact, through field-work activities in vulnerable areas and sectors of difficult access. Having the support and collaboration of a series of both national and international organizations and associates has enabled us to overcome obstacles efficiently and rapidly, and has allowed us to present results obtained today as real institutional accomplishments.
This year was one of major implementations for us, a year when many achievements may be cited as examples of our institutional dedication and faithfulness. This year we also emerged in the industry as a model entity, interpreting and obeying international guidelines and regulations, and submitting, with positive results, to the supervised scrutiny of the Banks Superintendence.
At present, Banco de Ahorro y Crédito ADOPEM constitutes an example of transparency, compliance, responsibility, philosophy of service and institutional development. This is the result of the joint effort of executives and employees devoted to the cause, and of the invaluable support of several institutions and organizations that have embraced Adopem’s mission and have made it possible to successfully reach the goals and objectives established.
Undeniably, the experience we gained in over two decades of operation as an NGO has served to lay the foundation for and to heighten thrust in our performance as a bank. Today we can present to the entire banking community results that speak for themselves, always on the side of the most noble causes and of those who are most in need.
